Webinar: Philanthropy - An Insider’s Guide for Fundraisers

As part of the Capacity Building Hub, we are thrilled to bring together an insider’s guide to philanthropy - a free webinar to share insights and advice into the world of philanthropic fundraising.

Join Sue McKinnon (McKinnon Family Foundation) and Rathana Chea (Multicultural Leadership Initiative), together with Australian Progress Philanthropy Director, Cathy Kirwan, to understand philanthropic decision-making from a donor’s perspective, as well as approaches to extend your philanthropic relationships, tips on managing donor stewardship and more.

Cathy Kirwan
Philanthropy Director, Australian Progress

Cathy has an extensive career in the not-for-profit sector spanning 25 years. Initially trained as a youth worker, she spent the early part of her career working in direct service in the homelessness and family violence sectors, providing case management to young people, women and families. Over the last 15 years Cathy’s work has focused exclusively on the areas of fundraising, marketing and communications for a diverse range of organisations including Safe and Equal, SisterWorks, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Strategic Grants and in her own consultancy practice.

Sue McKinnon

Sue has a background in forensic accounting, lecturing in economics, and educating people about the complexities of poverty and the important role of grassroots community organising in making the voices of the oppressed heard through local and international advocacy. Sue is passionate about eliminating poverty and the health of our environment. She has been treasurer for a number of organisations and is the director of the McKinnon Family Foundation.

Rathana Chea
Co-founder, Multicultural Leadership Initiative

For over 25 years Rathana has been leading campaigns, building organisations and growing leaders that transform our world. Rathana’s expertise in coaching and mentoring other change-maker CEOs to help translate their ambitions into reality has garnered testimonials from some of today's most recognised change-makers. In 2022 Rathana co-founded his passion project, the Multicultural Leadership Initiative, a global network of NFPs working at the intersection between race, culture and climate change to empower and involve greater leadership from People of Colour in building a climate safe future that is fair and equitable for all.

 

 

ACCESS INFORMATION:

  • Zoom: We will be meeting via Zoom, and sharing webinar materials over Google Docs and Google Slides. If you have access to a computer or laptop, we recommend you join the training by computer to make navigating the materials easier.

  • Resources: During the webinar we will use the screen share function to share slides.

  • Early access to slides: A view-only version of the slide deck can be supplied early if this supports your participation. Any copies of the slides provided will include alt-text / image descriptions. Some guest speaker slides cannot be provided in advance. If you need early access to materials, please mention this in the ‘access needs’ question when registering. 

  • No breaks: There won’t be any breaks during the webinar. However we will share the webinar recording with everyone afterward, so feel free to step away if you need a break.

  • Captions: We will have live captioning during the webinar.

  • Breakout rooms: This training uses breakout rooms throughout, with group sizes ranging from pairs through to groups of five for discussions and workshop activities.

  • Auslan interpretation: If you need Auslan interpreters, please let us know when registering. Because of the high demand for interpreters, we cannot guarantee interpreters will be available, especially if registering less than a week before the training.

  • Video norms: We encourage everyone to have your cameras on if you feel comfortable, but do not require you to do so.

  • Chat: This training includes use of the chat function in Zoom. Participants will be asked to introduce themselves in chat, and to enter responses in the chat throughout the training.

  • Tech and access support: The Australian Progress team will be able to assist with any tech support, including Zoom, the slide deck, and access.

When you register for the event, we will ask if you have any access needs. If you need something in place that is not already arranged, or if you need more information about any part of the event, we will work with you to provide that.
